How to care for a dog in summer?

Dehydration

How much water should be given to the dog.

  • If you have a small breed such as Pug, beagle, then you should give them 2 to 3 litres of water a day.
  • Big breed like Labrador, German shepherd you should give them 4 to 5 litres of water a day.
  • If there is a Gaint breed such as Saint Bernard the Great Dane, then you should give them 8 to 9 litres of water throughout the day.

So in this way, you can maintain dehydration of your dog

And take special care of one thing, if your dog face problem of dehydration, then it may cause your dog Heatstroke or coma or his death.

Now, We will tell about how to protect your dog from heatstroke

  • Do not keep your dog in any locked room.
  • Do not keep your dog inside the car.

If you do this then the temperature of his body increases, due to this it may have a problem of heatstroke.

Symptoms of Heatstroke

  • Your dog gets a lot of salivae.
  • Quite fast he starts laughing
  • The dog has a problem in breathing
  • And the dog’s body gets very hot
  • It is also a symptom to lie on all four legs (square posture) .

Do less exercise in summer

You should be excised before 6:00 in the morning and after 6:00 in the evening.

You have to do a very little exercise in summer.

If dogs get fleas and ticks in summer, then use antitickcs shampoo or spray to avoid it.

Dogs should provide high fibre food in summer.

  1. Never, ever leave your dog in the car.
  2. Make sure your dog has unlimited access to freshwater.
  3. Make sure your dog has access to shade when outside.
  4. Take walks during the cooler hours of the day.
  5. When walking, try to stay off of hot surfaces (like asphalt) because it can burn your dog’s paws.
  6. If you think it’s hot outside, it’s even hotter for your pet – make sure your pet has a means of cooling off.
  7. Keep your dog free of external parasites (fleas, ticks) and heartworms – consult your veterinarian about the best product for your pet.
  8. Consider clipping or shaving dogs with long coats (talk to your veterinarian first to see if it’s appropriate for your pet), and apply sunscreen to your dog’s skin if she or he has a thin coat.
